Meet the artist and solo exhibition: Mike Moss.
Wildwood are delighted to welcome Mike Moss- a real master of watercolours.
Mike will be in the gallery 11am-4pm on Saturday April 2nd when he will be working and demonstrating his craft in the gallery.
Mike has also produced a number of beautiful paintings especially for his solo exhibition here at Wildwood. His exhibition will run throughout April.
Michael was born in Preston in 1948. In his early twenties he emigrated to Australia and later travelled to New Zealand where he held his first exhibition. He returned to the UK to attend the Preston and Plymouth Colleges of Art before settling in Cornwall.
In 1984 Michael won the Western Morning News Open Art Competition and in 1991 he was a prize-winner in the Ecco-Goodhousekeeping Open Exhibition. He has exhibited in all 3 South West Opens. In 1996 he won prizes in the Mixed Media and drawing categories of the Society of Artists from Cornwall competition and in 1997 he was prize-winner in the 1997 Sterts Open Competition. In 1998 he was a double prize-winner in the water-colour and drawing sections in the Society of Artists in Cornwall. In 2006 he won the water-colour prize at Stuart House.
Watercolours is one of the most difficult mediums to master. Mike makes it look so easy! His main subjects being rivers and woodland and birds. Often he takes us to heart of the woodland, peering through trees to glimpse a bird or a river or he opens the vista and focuses on a dramatic sky. There is power and intrigue in Mike’s work which reminds me of Ted Hughes’ poetry. Come and step into the enthralling world of Mike Moss.
Concurrently we will have an exhibition of beautiful Dartmoor art by a number of the regions well known artists.
