“ I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor.” Steven Spielberg.

Event Details

Railway Ramblers is hosting an 8 mile walk following the former Rattlebrook Peat Railway constructed in 1879 from Bridestowe Station on the former LSWR mainline to access Peat workings on Rattlebrook Hill at over 1000 feet above sea level. The track was lifted 1936/7 following an abortive attempt to convert it to narrow gauge. The Peat workings continued to 1956 using lorries on the adapted trackbed.

Guests as well as members are welcome to join the walk.  Railway Ramblers is a national club that organises walks and encourages interest in disused railway lines throughout the UK.  Click the link below to find out more
