“ I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor.” Steven Spielberg.

5 Fabulous Dartmoor Days Out (and more besides!)

If these don’t capture your imagination, fear not – there are dozens of others! Have a look at our Active Dartmoor section for inspiration!

Try one of the lovely Circular Walks or take the family along to one of the many Family Attractions Or book a free guided walk (2 to 3 hour walk around Bellever Forest moorland site, learning about the ponies, the environment and the ancient people who lived here) from the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust.

Everyone loves a meal out during a day trip or holiday, so don’t forget to  look at our Delicious Dartmoor pages, we even have a Delicious Dartmoor Map to make life easy for you!

If walking near or playing in water is your idea of a great day out, then check out South West Lakes locations, from Burrator to Roadford to Avon Dam.Read more..

Love riding horses and seeing the Dartmoor Ponies? Explore the moor on horseback from one of the superb Riding Stables who cater for beginners to experienced riders.

We have all sorts of Guided Walks, from Llama Walks to Letterboxing, from Painted Rocks to Dowsing. Take a look HERE!

Dartmoor welcomes well-behaved dogs, we have a blog with lots of information on Dog Friendly Dartmoor which you may find useful. (This was written last year, update is that sadly Skye is no longer with us, but a little chocolate Labrador puppy is now keeping us busy. You can follow her progress in Maisie’s Adventures blog posts!)

Finally – stay for a few days, there’s far too much to do in just one day! Our Accommodation is second to none whether you love complete hotel luxury or enjoying the freedom of a self-catering cottage.

Keep an eye on our What’s On pages for October, more events are constantly being added.

Have fun and enjoy every minute when you Visit Dartmoor!
