Welcome to Ramblers’ Rest – A Sustainable Stay in the Heart of Dartmoor
Welcome to Ramblers’ Rest, a guesthouse in the historic 18th-century building that once housed The Railway Inn, right in the centre of Princetown, Dartmoor’s highest settlement. We offer comfortable, flexible accommodation designed with walkers, cyclists, families, and groups in mind.
Our concept of “simple self-catering” gives guests the freedom to prepare light meals and snacks with a sink, fridge, kettle, toaster, and microwave in each room. It’s perfect for packed lunches, early breakfasts, or keeping hungry kids happy—without the need for a full kitchen.
In addition to our self-catered rooms, we offer a fully self-contained studio apartment, a stylish space featuring a king-sized bed and a double sofa bed, sleeping up to four guests. It’s ideal for couples, small families, or friends seeking a cosy base for exploring Dartmoor.
Guests also have access to a shared outdoor kitchen, complete with a log burner for warmth and atmosphere, and a hot tub—perfect for unwinding after a day on the moor or cooking up something more substantial in the fresh air.
We’re proud holders of the Green Tourism Green Acorn Award, recognising our commitment to sustainability across energy efficiency, waste reduction, and community support. This award reflects our ethos: caring for People, Places, and Planet. We’ve embedded practical, eco-conscious choices throughout our guesthouse—from reducing single-use items to embracing the circular economy.
All our rooms are ensuite, with 6ft-long divan beds—a thoughtful touch for taller guests. We offer king and superking options, and guests frequently comment on the exceptional comfort and restful sleep.
We’re mud and pet friendly, welcoming dogs in most rooms, and we can accommodate groups of up to 34 people across the guesthouse. Whether you’re here for a solo adventure, a family getaway, or a group retreat, Ramblers’ Rest is ready to host you with warmth and flexibility.
Right on our doorstep, you’ll find four catering outlets: The Plume of Feathers and The Prince of Wales – two traditional Dartmoor pubs; The Foxtor Café and The Police Station Café – perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a cream tea; and a local general store for essentials, snacks, and supplies.
