At Aquila Outdoor Adventures, we are passionate about outdoor exploration and adventure. With over 20 years of experience, our professional Adventure Guides are dedicated to providing unforgettable Dartmoor experiences. From outdoor climbing and abseiling to team building and survival skills, we offer a wide range of activities for all levels of adventurers on Dartmoor.

Our experienced guides are here to introduce you to the sights, sounds, and incredible experiences that await you. Whether you’re into hiking, climbing, or exploring the wilderness, we have the perfect tour packages for you. As a family-run business established in 2001, we are dedicated to providing unforgettable adventures for all.

Survival Skills/Bushcraft sessions

In kind conjunction with Dartmoor activity Centre, Haytor, We are offering survival skills/Bushcraft sessions, this could be half day, full day or a two day with an over night.

Activities include, fire lighting, whitling/knife skills, shelter building, water purification, open fire cooking, 1st Aid.

Now Offering: Mountain Training Hill Skills

The Hill Skills course is your key to getting started in countryside and moorland walking. No previous hill walking experience is required because the content of the course is aimed at beginners. If you do have some experience of hill walking but aren’t confident about planning walks, navigating, and understanding the equipment required, then the Hill Skills course is an ideal way to learn.

The sessions can be either at Dartmoor Activity Centre Haytor, Sidvale Scout Centre, Sidmouth or we can come to a venue near you.

Group Discounts available for Schools, Colleges, Youth groups and large family groups.

The perfect idea for those that want something different. Come to one of our venue on Dartmoor or Sidmouth. Or we can come to you if you have  a large garden/field or wood. We are hitting the road in a joint venture with Dartmoor Activity Centre (Haytor)  We are taking some of our activities on the road to venues at schools, colleges, Youth Groups * private groups. This could be for you if you are preparing for Mountain Training Lowland leader, South West Moorland leadership Scheme, any voluntary organization walking permits, DofE expeditions.
Are your Hill Skills dwindling, do you need a refresher or do you just need to build more confidence to go further on the “Hill” if so then get in touch and we can help.

Our courses are small sociable spaces run in beautifully hilly places. It’s common for people to have shared interests and the start of the course always involves a discussion about motivations and previous experience. After that, the course will cover an agreed list of topics, tailored to meet the needs of the group and the weather conditions.
Build confidence to explore:
Venturing off a signposted path or away from familiar routes can feel a bit daunting, which is why we’re here to help you explore with confidence. All our Hill Skills providers (the people who deliver our skills training courses) are experienced hill walkers with a passion for people – they’re here to help you make the most of your local hills or have the confidence to hike on your holidays.
Learn essential skills:
A Hill Skills course will focus on the essentials such as choosing where to go, knowing how to use a map and compass to navigate when you get there, and thinking about how to look after yourself throughout the day. A Hill Skills course can also be used as a stepping stone to our Lowland Leader qualification.

NNAS ” Night Owl”, Mountain Training Hill Skills and NNAS Bronze, Silver and Gold.


NNAS Night Owl  navigation courses. Empower & Growth.  Your walking should not be limited to just daylight hours! especially when the night brings an entirely different beauty to your chosen environment. The Night Owl course will enable you to relax and find comfort in the darkness, equipping you with the necessary skills to allow you a smooth transit across the land with little to no visibility. The skills you will learn on this course will also apply to those days when the mist, fog and snow come creeping in unexpected during your walk on the hills and moors. The course is for you if you are already a fairly competent navigator and want that extra confidence in your ability to cope with a number of challenges. If you are preparing for a walking qualification or permit then this could be the perfect training opportunity to consolidate and practise your poor weather and night nav skills.
