“ I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor.” Steven Spielberg.

Take a Step Back to a 1923 Night of Murder Mystery at House of Marbles

Fans of spine-tingling mysteries, especially those written by legendary Dartmoor author Arthur Conan Doyle, will likely find all the plot twists they’re seeking in our upcoming event. We predict that even Sherlock Holmes and his trusty companion Watson would be amused by the enigmatic clues and immersive experience offered at The Pottery By Night Restaurant this September.

House of Marbles, nestled at the gateway to Dartmoor in Bovey Tracey, provides an enchanting and unique setting that perfectly complements a day on the moors. It’s a place where visitors can escape the elements and enjoy a change of pace, contrasting Dartmoor’s vast and powerful landscape with moments of fun and frivolity. This evening, though, Dartmoor’s darker, more mysterious side will take centre stage!

The new evening restaurant at House of Marbles, The Pottery By Night, is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings throughout the year and already has a line-up of exclusive events and specials; however, this Murder Mystery evening will be the first of its kind to take place on the site. The plot, crafted by The Moonstone Theatre Company, echoes the site’s 1920s pottery-making history, making it an event locals won’t want to miss.

As the night unfolds, a captivating narrative unravels, weaving the participants into a web of intrigue surrounding a murder. Prepare to enter a world where every facet holds a clue, and every interaction might reveal a hidden truth designed for those seeking a truly unique and fascinating experience.

“During the year we are trying some new ideas and celebrating throughout the business to mark our 50th year of business.  We want to acknowledge the past 50 years of trading, the history and heritage of House of Marbles but we want to look to the future too and see what can enhance our offering.” Andrea Harkin, Managing Director added further “I love a good murder mystery; I think our setting, the storyline and the menu will make for a fun and entertaining night.”

The event will allow participants to take a step back in time while tasting a selection of local and seasonal dishes produced by our resident chefs at the evening restaurant. In recognition of the prolific local crime author Agatha Christie, the evening’s crime-fighting super sleuth is inspired by her works, taking the form of ‘Miss Marble’. Will it delight and amuse? Most certainly! Would Steven Spielberg be as impressed with the plot as he was with the “abundance of natural beauty” on Dartmoor when filming there? We like to think so.

This event takes place on Saturday, 30th September 2023, with limited spaces available, so booking is essential. For more information, visit: https://visit.houseofmarbles.com/events/murder-mystery-in-the-pottery-by-night.
