The Sculpture School… a DECADE in Devon

The Sculpture School – the UK’s only venue for realist sculpture training – is celebrating its 10th anniversary in Devon. To mark this milestone, it will be holding a major exhibition from 24th June to 7th July showcasing a DECADE of talent.

With its unique and innovative method of producing modern realist sculpture in simple steps, the school attracts students from all over the world. Under the inspirational leadership of husband-and-wife team, Master sculptor Andrew Sinclair, MRSS, and Diane Coates-Sinclair, the North Tawton venue has become a sculpture sanctuary with school, gallery, workshop, luxury accommodation and sculpture garden.

Courses run from a one-day taster, through four-day in-depth animal and human sculpture, to a one-year curriculum. Enthusiastic amateurs, professional sculptors and artists, school leavers, retirees – and even plastic surgeons – have all visited this Devon centre of sculpting expertise.

A current ‘One Year’ student explains: “Andrew Sinclair has brilliantly developed an organised figurative sculpting method which can only be described as a breakthrough. After a humbling decade of courses with sculptors in Florence, Paris and New York, I had almost lost hope that I would ever be able to design my own sculptures or apply the anatomical importance I wanted in figurative sculpture.”

The show – a DECADE in Devon – is open 10am to 4pm daily and admission is free. A selection of top work from Andrew and Diane, their students and alumni, will be available to view and purchase. Demonstrations and tours are planned for the weekends.
