Rowtor is a distinctive granite outcrop nestled within the rugged terrain of north Dartmoor on the moorland in the Okehampton military ranges.

Standing at an elevation of approximately 1,346 feet (410 meters) above sea level, Rowtor commands panoramic views of the surrounding moorland and is a popular destination for walkers, nature enthusiasts, and photographers alike.

The tor’s name, “Row,” is thought to derive from the Old English word “raw,” meaning a line or a row, possibly referring to the alignment of stones or rock formations at the site. Row Tor’s unique geological features make it a compelling attraction. The granite rocks here have been sculpted by centuries of weathering, resulting in a maze of crevices, nooks, and crannies that beckon adventurers to explore. Its undulating surface, adorned with mosses and lichens, adds to the mystique of the tor.

Rowtor is easily accessible from the road and nearby car parks, visitors can take advantage of several footpaths that crisscross Dartmoor, allowing for a variety of routes to reach the tor.
