Getting to dartmoor
Great Western Railway (GWR) provides high speed, commuter, regional and branch line train services. We help over 100 million passengers reach their destinations every year – across South Wales, the West Country, the Cotswolds, and large parts of Southern England.
If you are planning a trip to Dartmoor by train you will find good main line railway connections. The main line train stations closest to Dartmoor National Park are Exeter, Newton Abbot, Totnes, Ivybridge and Plymouth. Journey time between London Paddington and Plymouth is around 4 hours and an average of 17 trains per day (weekdays) make this trip.
The Exeter/Okehampton Dartmoor Line directly connects the northern part of Dartmoor to the city of Exeter.
There are trains every two hours each way, seven days a week, between Okehampton, Crediton and Exeter St Davids, including services for daily commuters.
More than half of Monday to Friday services will also call at Exeter Central, including the key peak services. From 12th December, more than half of weekend services will too.
